![]() ![]() ![]() Twelve years ago the herd vacated a tie-stall facility and expanded from 140 milking cows to the now 640 daily milking and 1400 total animals. Gary Janssen is the past manager and is now the Senior Genetics consultant while Tom Patterson is the President of Golden Oaks Farm and Midwest Organics. Bill Crown oversees the farm for the family while Ethan Heinzmann is the Genetics and Dairy Manager. Golden Oaks Farm of Wauconda, owned by the Crown Family since 1948, has a long history in the Registered Holstein business. The friendly atmosphere of the bar made it a great place to find entertaining gossip.Excited for the 2015 National Holstein Convention hosted by the state of Illinois, Golden Oaks Farm will unlatch the farm gate and welcome Holstein breeders to a unique farm in a unique setting that has adopted progressive dairy practices in shadows of the Windy City otherwise known as Chicago. The Golden Oak was a favored meeting place of druids, rangers and elves. As such, any patrons who were caught wantonly, or carelessly, destroying any seedlings or harming any young animals while in Silverymoon, or the High Forest, were turned away from its doors. The Golden Oak also served as a temple to one of the nature deities, Shiallia. The prices were steep but the personal chamber services were well worth the coin. ![]() The taproom in the cellar offered drinks to those who entered while the chambers above were available to rent. This only added to the ambiance and feeling of natural comfort. Its unique architecture allowed for rain to fall through and empty out into the cellar, which would be closed in such an instance. Lanterns were hung from the branches of the mighty oak to provide warm lighting above its tables. The inn's decor featured fresh air, fragrant herbs, and ferns, all arranged to remind guests of the pleasantness and safety of nature. The inn was located on Dancer's Mask Lane, where the Ghostwalk joined it northeast of Rallowglass Ride. ![]()
